Threat identity (IDE) files (inglese) are not supplied for Sophos Anti-Virus versions more than three months old.

Sophos recommends that you upgrade Sophos Anti-Virus whenever there is a new release. Currently this is monthly.

Note: Sophos Anti-Virus version 4.5x and above are updated automatically.

During any three-month period, Sophos will have analysed many hundreds of new viruses and other threats. Some of these will probably require updates to the scanning technology, often because there are changes in the kind of objects that viruses can infect, e.g. new Microsoft Office file formats.

For this reason, Sophos cannot offer technical support to customers who are not using an up-to-date version of Sophos Anti-Virus.
