Files with long names may show incorrectly on Asian language systems

When Sophos Anti-Rootkit is run on systems using Asian languages which have double-byte characters, e.g. Japanese, files with names longer than 193 double-byte characters may be identified as hidden files in the disk scan.

This only applies when the actual file name is longer than 193 double-byte characters. It does not apply to the path.

If you try to use Sophos Anti-Rootkit to remove a file with a long name like this, the scan summary will falsely report that it has been removed. However, it will not have been removed, and will reappear when you run a rescan.

This issue only occurs on FAT drives.

What to do

If using double-byte characters, rename the file with a shorter name.
